Gisborne Regional Land Transport Committee
The Gisborne Regional Land Transport Committee is established by the requirements of the Land Transport Act 1998 (LTA) as amended by the Land Transport Management Act 2003. The LTA establishes the framework for achieving the Government’s overall vision of an affordable, integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable land transport system.
This committee is responsible for the development and implementation of our local land transport strategy. The strategy:
- gives guidance and provides a high level framework for the Council to work within as they allocate funds for transport schemes within the region.
- outlines a vision for the future
- sets the objectives of the region in terms of transport
- identifies the roles of land transport modes including private motor vehicles, passenger transport (including buses and mobility services), freight transport, port activities, rail, cycling, and walking
- works through a number of strategic options for achieving a balance between economic, social and environmental factors associated with the provision of transport in the region
In his role as a member of the Regional Transport Committee, Lifetime Member Clare Radomske has promoted:
- better linkages between transport plans and other council long term plans and strategies
- a wider vision for the committee, including and integrated transport plan that includes ocean and air transport
- better linkages with the operations committee and council
- an off highway roading platform for Gisborne regional log transport
- council investigation of a Roading Cost Allocation Model (RCAM) as a basis, in whole or in part, for funding roading costs rather than relying on property value as the primary
- basis to fund local roads.
