East Coast becomes a Regional Business Partner

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology (TechNZ) have appointed East Coast Regional Business Partners, to their new network of 14 regional business partners. The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce will deliver these services in the East Coast in partnership with:

As a NZTE-TechNZ Regional Partner we will work with businesses to support business growth and innovation in the East Coast. The emphasis of the government business assistance is to target those businesses committed to improving their own success and growth prospects. We will also be identifying businesses in the East Coast that are likely to be eligible for more intensive support from NZTE and the Foundation.

SME IRD COMPLIANCE - RESULTS OF INLAND REVENUE SURVEY
This came through from Inland Revenue Department - Comparing 2009 compliance hours ($$) with 2004

  • The number of hours spent on doing tax? Down by 16.3hours a year to 77 hours
  • Stress levels associated with meeting tax requirments? Down by 0.2 points to 3.2 points (on a 7 point scale)
  • Dollars spent on doing tax? Down by $5,557 annually
  • The reduction in tax compliances costs for SME's? Priceless

In 2004, Inland Revenue surveyed SME's (small and medium enterprises) around New Zealand to
find out how much time they spent doing their tax. This exercise was repeated in 2009 to compare
tax compliance costs for these two years.

Launching the report, Revenue Minister Peter Dunne said " These findings are particularly significant when
businesses are operating in a very tough workd today". These positive changes are the result of Governments's
focus on minimising compliance costs over the past five years. He added "We want businesses focused on doing
business and succeeding for themselves and for the New Zealand economy."

For all New Zealand SME;s on average, internat costs in 2009 were $3,995 down from $4,075 in 2004.
External costs, the amount paid to tax agents / advisors were unchanged at $1639. Overall, the combined
tax compliance cost for SME's in 2009 was $5,557 down from $5,628 in 2004.

The reduced costs are inflation-adjusted and include the extra cost from the introductio of Kiwisaver.
The introduction of KiwiSaver saw an additional tax compliance cost of $705 annually.
These businesses also spent an extra 14.5 hours annually complying with KiwiSaver requirements.
