Notice of AGM – 'Unusual Circumstances'

If it was not for Covid-19, the AGM of the Tairawhiti Gisborne Chamber of Commerce would proceed as normal.  However this year due to these unusual circumstances, the Executive of the Chamber have decided to hold an online AGM on Thursday 21 May at 4.00 pm.  This will be held via a “Zoom link” and sent to all registered attendees prior to the meeting.

After a review of our constitution and professional advice, we the Executive believe that the constitution allows for an online AGM.  On the one hand, the constitution states an AGM must be held within 4 months of the end of the financial year; in our case April 30.  But on the other hand, it gives the Executive powers to conduct the affairs of the Chamber as they see fit in the event of “irregularities”.  Covid-19 is most certainly an irregularity and as such the decision has been made to proceed with an online AGM.

We realise that this may not suit all members, so if any member does not agree with this approach, then please email me with your concerns and reasoning.  We will try to make the meeting as accessible for as many people as possible.
If you wish to nominate yourself or others for a position on the Executive, nomination forms are available on our website or the link above. Candidates must be nominated and seconded in writing by a current financial member.
The Agenda for the meeting this year will involve a discussion from Michael Barnett, the CEO of the Auckland Business Chamber, giving us some insights into the state of business in Auckland as we come out of Level 3.

We look forward to seeing you there.
