Lines companies, communities, and the future of energy.

Electricity distribution businesses are not only at the heart of our communities, they are pivotal to upcoming changes to our energy system designed to move us to Net Zero by 2050. In Tairāwhiti, these issues have come into urgent focus with the decision by Eastland Group and Trust Tairāwhiti to sell the Eastland Network.

Angela Ogier, Director Hydrogen and Energy Transition at EY, will give a public presentation to provide useful and important context for the current discussion about public versus private ownership of lines companies. She will consider:

  • Our energy system and how lines companies need to change to support the transition to net zero;

  • How lines companies are regulated in Aotearoa to protect consumers;

  • Whether ownership impacts on the current and future role of the lines companies.

Having studied engineering in New Zealand, and completed a Master of Business Administration in the UK, Angela Ogier has worked on energy sector projects in the UK, France, Nigeria, Australia and Aotearoa. Along with her broad knowledge of international energy markets, she is leading discussions in this country about what it will take to transform our energy systems to meet the challenges of climate change.
